Due South

(no subject)

I decided to take a break from writing yesterday. I've been keeping on track, writing roughly 1000 words a day, even if they're in a notebook, so I have no idea what the actual word count is.

Lately I've been feeling frustrated because everything I've been writing has been absolute crap. And no, I'm pretty sure I'm not just being overly negative. I hadn't written a single thing that doesn't have to be completely overhauled. I wrote three pages for the Lazy MWPP writers Christmas Moonthy Challenge. I can maybe salvage two sentences of it.

So I decided to take a break from writing. I went to bed. I turned off the lights. Then five minutes later, I was hit with an idea for a drabble.

"Perfect!" I thought. "This is great. I can write a nice, short drabble, which will not require lots of time revising, seeing as it's so short, and be able to post it tomorrow. It'll make me feel better."

A little over an hour later, I finished writing the first draft of the so-called "drabble". It's 4 1/2 handwritten pages. Way to go, me! Great way to show everyone you know how to write short. It needs revision.

But not as much as everything else I've been writing recently, so all in all, I'm pretty pleased with it. And myself. Of course, I haven't reread it since 2:30 a.m., so whether I still am pleased with it when I type it out, I can't say.
